Hospital buys $7-M medical systems
Thousands of Filipino patients will benefit from the state-of-the-art medical systems recently acquired by the Far Eastern University-Nicanor Reyes Sr. Medical Foundation Hospital. These systems, supplied by industry leader General Electric Medical Systems (GEMS), will give Filipino doctors access to technologies previously unavailable in the country, helping them save lives and improve the health of more Filipinos.
The $7-million acquisition includes top-of-the-line magnetic resonance (MR), computed tomography (CT) and X-ray imaging systems. These provide clear images of the structures in the body, allowing clinicians to make faster and better diagnoses. The CT system, GE's LightSpeed, is the first of its type in Southeast Asia.
The acquisition also includes systems that support the hospital's shift to digital operations. Increased digitization of the hospital environment supports faster and more reliable diagnoses, real-time consultation with leading clinicians anywhere in the world, and reduces operating cost.
The acquisition is a milestone for both institutions. For the FEU-Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation, the acquisition is a crucial step in their efforts to improve their medical facilities and the ability to meet the health care needs of the Philippines. Armed with GE's technology, the hospital will continue FEU's long tradition of leadership in medical treatment and education.
The acquisition is the single largest sale ever made by GEMS in Southeast Asia, and confirms the company's commitment to increased support for the Southeast Asian health care community, GEMS, a subsidiary of General Electric Company, is a global leader in medical diagnostic systems and services. For more than 100 years, health care providers have relied on GE Medical Systems to provide high-quality imaging technology, services and productivity solutions. GE Medical Systems, with its global headquarters in Wausheka, Wisconsin, is a $6-billion business that employs more than 20,000 people worldwide.
