Tiangco welcomes DSWD aid for maternal health
MANILA, Philippines — Emphasizing the importance of maternal and child health during the first 1,000 days of life, Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco expressed yesterday his full support to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) program to provide pregnant women and mothers of children below two years with additional cash aid.
“I welcome the administration’s efforts to expand the benefits under the 4Ps program, especially since this directly supports mothers,” Tiangco said, referring to the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program which provides conditional cash transfers to improve health, nutrition and education of poor households.
Dubbed as F1KD, Tiangco said the DSWD program aligns with the administration’s commitment to combat stunting and malnutrition by providing P350 per month to mothers and pregnant women.
“About 80,000 mothers will receive this monthly assistance and we know that it will be a big help to ensure a healthy pregnancy and their health when they give birth,” Tiangco said.
He added that “investing in primary healthcare strengthens the foundation of an effective public health system” as it “nurtures life and safeguards the guiding light of Filipino homes.”
