MANILA, Philippines — Kinumpirma ni Atty. Ferdinand Topacio na nakalaya na si dating Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. mula sa preventive detention sa Becora Prison sa Dili, Timor Leste.

Sa inilabas na pahayag ni Topacio, lead Philippine legal counsel ni Topacio, ipinaalam sa kanya ng kanyang counterpart na nakalaya na si Teves habang nakabinbin pa ang kanyang extradition trial.

“Rep. Arnolfo Teves was released from preventive detention pending his extradition trial, my Timor Leste (TL) counterparts inform me because the request for extradition by the Philippine Government was made out of time international law. In other words, our government “screwed”. Thus, his imprisonment was declared illegal,” sabi ni Topacio.

Si Teves ay inaresto noong Pebrero sa Timor Leste at mayroong nakabinbing aplikasyon para sa political asylum sa nasabing bansa.

Pahayag pa ni Topacio,  base sa CRA Law office at Dr. Jose Ximenez, mayroon pa judicial proceedings para sa dating kongresista na may kaugnayan sa kanyang patuloy na pananatili sa TL at haharapin niya ito kasama ang mga testigo niya kabilang dito si dating Human Rights Commissioner Wilhelm Soriano, na eksperto sa human rights.

Magugunita na pinatalsik ng Kamara sa pwesto si Teves dahil sa pamamaslang kay Negros Oriental governor Roel Degamo noong Marso 4,2023.
