Pagpapalakas sa EV industry, isinulong
MANILA, Philippines — Isinulong sa Kamara ang panukalang palakasin ang electric vehicle (EV) industry ng bansa.
Layon ng House Bill No. 9573 na inihain ni Albay 2nd District Rep. Joey Sarte Salceda na amyendahan ang Republic Act No. 11697, o ang “Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act” (EVIDA), upang balasahin ang tax and duty treatment ng electric vehicles at matugunan ang mga kritikal na isyu na kinakaharap ng bansa.
Pangunahing layunin ng panukala na matupad ng Pilipinas ang commitments nito sa international community sa ilalim ng Paris Agreement at mabawasan ang pagdepende ng bansa sa fossil fuels.
Binigyang-diin ni Salceda ang pangangailangan na lumipat sa sustainable alternatives sa harap ng tumataas na net petroleum import bill, na mula US$11.57 billion noong 2021 ay sumirit sa US$19.02 billion noong 2022.
Iginiit ng kongresista na ang electric vehicle sector ang ‘key player’ sa pagkamit ng paglipat na ito.
“While the EVIDA has successfully propelled a six-fold increase in electric car sales in 2023 compared to 2022, limitations in the law have excluded two-wheeled electric vehicles from crucial fiscal incentives,” sabi ni Salceda.
Kabilang sa pinaaamyendahan ang redefinition ng electric vehicles upang maisama ang two-wheeled vehicles sa saklaw ng RA 11697.
“Some 60% of electric vehicles in the country fall into the two-wheeled category, making their exclusion from tax incentives inequitable. Additionally, two-wheeled electric vehicles are highlighted for their affordability and potential to address congestion issues,” pagbibigay-diin ng lawmaker mula sa Bicol sa kanyang panukala.
