SMNI hosts ni-redtag journos na nagbalita sa pagkamatay ng CPP leaders
MANILA, Philippines — Muling iniugnay ng hosts ng SMNI News Channel ang ilang peryodista't aktibista sa Communist Party of the Philipppines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA) sa isang palatuntunan — ang ilan sa pinararatangan, idinidiin dahil nagsusulat ng balita tungkol sa mga rebelde.
Ito ang ibinulalas, nang walang ipinepresentang ebidensya, ng dating spokesperson ng National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) na si Lorraine Badoy at Jeffrey “Ka Eric” Celiz sa programang "Laban Kasama ang Bayan" nitong Miyerkules.
"[Just as guilty as the NPA] ang media na nagkakalat ng propaganda ng CPP-NPA-NDF katulad ng Philstar at Rappler," wika ni Badoy, na humaharap sa sari-saring kaso sa Ombudsman dahil sa red-tagging.
"Kung bakit pala ang Philstar ay... parang propaganda machine ng CPP-NPA-NDF, recently 'yung mga kwento nila about, 'yung mga articles nila about Wilma and Benito Tiamzon, [Eric Jun] Casilao, is because pala 'yung online editor nila is si Jonathan de Santos na leader ng [National Union of Journalists of the Philippines]."
Matatandaang ibinalita kalakhan ng mainstream media ang pagkamatay ng dating chairperson at secretary general ng CPP na sina Benito at Wilma kamakailan. Ganito rin ang kaso pagdating sa deportation kay Casilao mula Malaysia.
Dati nang binalaan ng Korte Suprema ng "contempt" si Badoy dahil sa kanyang panre-redtag at pagbabanta sa buhay ng isang hukom ng Maynila.
'Red-tagging sa World Press Freedom Day'
Hindi naman pinalampas ng grupong Human Rights Watch ang nasabing panre-redtag nina Celis at Badoy lalo na't ginawa ito noong ika-3 ng Mayo, sakto sa World Press Freedom Day.
"Throughout the program, the hosts repeatedly accused journalists Jonathan de Santos, former Philippine Daily Inquirer correspondent Nestor Burgos Jr., and the leaders of the [NUJP] as members and fronts of the Communist Party of the Philippines and New People’s Army," ani Carlos Conde, senior researcher ng HRW, ngayong Biyernes.
"They also singled out PhilStarNews, the online arm of the Philippine Star newspaper where de Santos is an editor."
Ani Conde, hindi na bago ang ginagawa ng hosts ng SMNI sa pagbibigay ng airtime sa red-tagging. Sa kabila nito, hindi raw ito simpleng harassment ngunit tangka para nagpahamak ng mga tao.
Wika ng HRW, marami nang aktibista sa kasaysayan ang naging biktima ng extrajudicial killings matapos ma-red-tag.
"That the SMNI hosts did their abominable redtagging on World Press Freedom Day, arguably the most important day for journalists in the world, is not only ironic – it is tragic, and only underscores the need for journalists to defend their freedom to report the news and hold power to account," kanyang panapos.
Dati nang nagbababala ang Commission on Human Rights pagdating sa red-tagging lalo na't inilalagay nito sa peligro ang buhay ng mga tao kahit wala pang napatutunayan sa harap ng korte.
