MANILA, Philippines — Naniniwala si Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla na hindi pa “culturally ready” ang Pilipinas pagdating sa “same-sex marriage”.

“Sabi nga natin, eh, culturally, our values may conflict with many of the values that they want to impose on us… We are not ready for that. Culturally, we are not ready for that,” ayon kay Remulla.

“That’s what we believe, ha? Unless somebody argues otherwise. That’s our position right now,” dagdag pa niya.

Itinuro rin niya ang Kongreso na maaring magpasa ng lehislasyon ukol dito at magiging polisiya na ng bansa kung tatanggapin ito o hindi. 

Ayon naman kay Justice Undersecretary Raul Vasquez, tahasang kinontra ng bansa ang rekomendasyon ng ilang member-states ng United Nations Human Rights Council na gawing legal ang abortion at divorce, maging ang Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression Equality (SOGIE) bill.

Ilan umano ito sa mga dapat i-reject dahil sa nasyunal na pagkakakilanlan, relihiyosong paniniwala, at kultural na tradisyon ng Pilipinas. 

Ayon sa DOJ, nakatanggap sila ng nasa 200 na iba’t ibang rekomendasyon kasabay ng Universal Periodic Review, isang peer-review mechanism ng United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC).

Sinabi ni Vasquez na karamihan sa mga rekomendasyon na kanilang natanggap ay tungkol sa pagpapaigting ng karapatan ng mga bata, proteksyon sa karapatan ng kababaihan, karapatan ng indigenous people (IPs) at mas malawak na proteksyon ng civic space.
