MANILA, Philippines — Hindi pinalusot ng mga progresibong mambabatas ang paghirang sa kaarawan ni dating Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Sr. bilang "holiday" sa isang probinsya, lalo na't malagim ang kanyang kasaysayan bilang diktador.

Huwebes kasi nang ibalitang idineklarang special non-working holiday ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sa Ilocos Norte ang ika-12 ng Setyembre, na siyang kapanganakan ng kanyang amang kilala sa ill-gotten wealth, human rights abuses at pagdedeklara ng Batas Militar noong 1972.

"Declaring a special holiday, even just for the home province of Marcos Sr. is a distortion of history. This goes against the spirit of RA 10368 or the Martial Law victims compensation law," wika ni House Deputy Minority Leader France Castro, Biyernes.

"This is a huge dishonor and disrespect to the victims of the regime of Ferdinand Marcos Sr., portraying him as good and worthy of being commemorated and erasing his actions and the atrocities of his regime."

"Dictators and human rights violators should never be commemorated or celebrated."

Aabot sa 70,000 katao ang kinulong, 34,000 ang tinorture habang 3,200 naman ang pinatay kaugnay ng Martial Law ni Marcos Sr., ayon sa datos ng Amnesty International.

Babala ni Castro, na siyang kinatawan din ng ACT Teachers party-list at Makabayan bloc, na hindi dapat makalimutan ang mga nabanggit upang hindi maulit ang kasaysayan. Hindi rin daw dapat hayaan ng mga guro ang ganitong distortions.

Kinikilala ng Korte Suprema noong 2003, 2012 at 2017 na merong ill-gotten wealth ang pamilya Marcos, bagay na tinatayang nasa $5 bilyon hanggang $10 bilyon.

Matatandaang inilibing si Marcos Sr. sa Libingan ng mga Bayani sa ilalim ng panunungkulan ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte, na siyang labis tinutulan ng mga Martial Law survivors, human rights advocates, istoryador at mga akademiko.

Dagdag pa ni Castro, marami sa mga problema ngayon ng mga eskwelahan gaya ng mababang pondo, kakulangan ng pasilidad, atbp. ay minana at lumalang problema sa ilalim ni Marcos Sr.

Sa kabila nito, una nang sinabi ni Marcos Jr. nitong Hunyong "hindi niya babaguhin" ang mga history books, na siyang ginagamit para ituro ang mga nangyari noong panunungkulan ng kanyang tatay.

"We must continue to fight for the history of the Filipino people. To attain justice for the victims and genuine peace, we must never forget the sins of the Marcos family, and never again must we let another dictatorial rule abuse the Filipino people and the country," panapos ni Castro.

Agosto lang nang aprubahan sa House Committee on Higher and Technical Education ang panukalang gawing Ferdinand E. Marcos State University (FEMSU) ang pangalan ng Mariano Marcos State University.

Kamakailan lang nang ihain ni Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. ang House Bill 610 para palitan ang pangalan ng Ninoy Aquino International Airport patungong Ferdinand E. Marcos International Airport.
