Mangingisda sinugod Chinese consulate sa 5th anniv ng 2016 arbitral ruling
MANILA, Philippines — Sinugod ng mga militanteng mangingisda't mga progresibo ang Konsulada ng Tsina sa Makati ngayong Lunes sa ika-limang taon ng pag-award ng West Philippine Sea sa Maynila ng Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) — lugar na pilit pa ring inaangkin ng Beijing.
Kasabay nito, dala-dala ng mga miyembro ng grupong Pamalakaya ang replika ng PCA document at ikinabit ito sa isang jet ski, na siyang ipinarada sa paligid ng konsulada. Patama ito sa bigong campaign promise ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na magje-jet ski siya't itatanim ang watawat ng Pilipinas sa Panatag Shoal bilang pagtindig laban sa Tsina.
"This is neither a publicity stunt nor a bluff. These are Filipino fishers standing up against China and upholding our rights in the West Philippine Sea," ani Fernando Hicap, national chairperson ng Pamalakaya.
"Likewise, this is a defiance against President Duterte who has completely turned his back on our national sovereignty and the Filipino people."
Hindi bababa sa 600,000 mangingisdang Pilipinong nakaasa sa West Philippine Sea ang apektado ngayon ng "walang tigil na pandarambong at paninira ng marine environment" ng Tsina, patuloy ng grupo.
Aabot sa P1.3 trilyon ang halagang nawawala sa bansa taun-taon dahil sa reclamation at illegal poaching ng Asian giant sa nasabing, ayon sa mga datos ng scientist group na AGHAM.
Bagama't exclusive economic zone (EEZ) ng Pilipinas ang West Philippine Sea, maya't maya pa ring nagpapatrolya at nangingisda sa erya mga Tsino. Nangyayari ito habang malapit na magkaibigan sina Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte at Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Kahit iprino-protesta ito ng Department of Foreign Affairs, ilang beses na ring sinabi ni Duterte na hindi siya magpapadala ng "gray ships" (Navy) doon dahil mauuwi lang daw ito sa digmaan.
"Five years after our momentous arbitral victory, China continues to trample on our fishing rights in our traditional fishing grounds," sabi pa ni Hicap.
"We vow to persist in seeking the dismantling of all Chinese military structures in our waters and the withdrawal of all its military forces from these artificial islands. No matter how powerful Chinese military is, it will prove no match to the united patriotic Filipino people."

Nagtungo rin sa konsulada ang grupong Akbayan sa pagsagawa ng "legacy rally" bilang pag-gunita sa arbitral ruling at pati na rin sa yumaong si dating Pangulong Benigno Aquino III, na presidente noong inihain ang arbitration case.
"Our victory at The Hague is enforceable. It is only unenforceable to traitors, cowards and lackeys in the government who could only enforce a treasonous and defeatist policy on China," ayon kay Dr. RJ Naguit na tagapagsalita ng grupo.
"It is shameful that after such an important victory was secured which could have paved the way for regional peace, stability and cooperation, Mr. Rodrigo Duterte has chosen to call it a 'worthless piece of paper' fit for the trash bin. Isa itong malaking kataksilan at kaduwagan! Ang ating tagumpay ay walang silbi lamang sa mga walang silbing lider," dagdag niya.
Robredo: Ruling hindi lubusang naipatupad
Ikinalungkot naman ni Bise Presidente Leni Robredo ang itinakbo ng nakaraang limang taon mula nang maipatupad ang arbitral ruling, bagay na nagbunsod diumano ng maraming "missed oppurtunities" para sa Pilipinas.
"Since [July 12, 2016], national leadership has yet to fully flex the ruling as an instrument to pursue our national interests, failing to invoke it in strong enough terms in the forums that matter most," ani Robredo kanina.
"Our fisherfolk remain unable to enter areas that have been the source of livelihood for generations of Filipinos."
Sana'y napalakas pa raw ang mga dati nang nakatayong alyansa, ngunit patuloy lang na nasusunod ang layaw ng mga "bully" sa katubigan ng Pilipinas.
Ganyan din naman ang naging pananaw ni dating Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario, na ikinabit sa "failure of leadership" ang kabiguang ipagtanggol ang West Philippine Sea.
"We can say that there are two out of several of President Duterte’s statements that have turned out to be true: first, that he is 'inutil' in protecting the West Philippine Sea; and second, that he 'simply loves Xi Jinping,'" aniya.
"Is it not about time for Filipinos to reject this man and what he represents?"
