Scheduled power interruptions, power rate hike magsasabay

MANILA, Philippines — Binatikos ng isang grupo ang napiling schedule ng Manila Electric Company para maantala ang suplay ng kuryente.

Itinaon kasi ito ilang araw matapos ianunsyo ang pagtataas ng singil sa kuryente ngayong buwan.

Nakatakdang magkaroon ng power outage mula 30 minutos hanggang ilang oras sa susunod na linggo mula ika-11 hanggang ika-17 ng Marso.

"Meralco must really hate its consumers. They will cut off electrical supply right after they said they will charge more," sabi ni Gerry Arances, energy advocate at nominee ng Murang Kuryente party-list.

Aniya, madadagdagan ng P18 ang electricity bill ng mga bahay na kumokonsumo ng 200 kWh.

Ayon kay Meralco spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga, tuloy-tuloy na tataas ang presyo ng kuryente habang tumataas ang demand sa pagpasok ng tag-init.

"Sisipa na yung konsumo. With that, you can expect electricity bills to go up as well dahil mas madami kang ginagamit na kuryente… As demand increases and supply right now is a bit of challenge because of series of yellow alerts, definitely there will be pressure for prices to go higher," sabi ni Zaldarriaga sa ulat ng News5.

Tumaas na rin daw ang singil ng Wholesale Electricity Spot Market ng P0.5178/kWh.

Sa WESM kinukuha ng Meralco ang 12 porsyento ng suplay ng kanilang kuryente.

Pero hindi naman kumbinsido ang MKP sa paliwanag ng Meralco.

"Perhaps Meralco needs the sweat of consumers to wash down all the money it will take from them. For the prices we pay, consumers deserve better," ani Arances.
