Double-decker bus sa EDSA, kinokonsidera

MANILA, Philippines - Kinokonsidera ng  Me­tropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) at Highway Patrol Group (HPG) ang  panukala ni Bataan Rep. Enrique “Tet” Garcia Jr. hinggil sa deployment ng mga double-decker bus sa kahabaan ng EDSA para masolusyunan ang problema sa trapiko at pollution.

 Sa naging pahayag ng HPG at MMDA, mas marami aniyang maisasakay na mga pasahero ang double-decker buses kaysa sa  mga regular buses, na makakabawas sa traffic congestion at pollution.

“Double-decker buses can also compensate for the limited road system and high volume of vehicular traffic in Metro Manila”, pahayag ni HPG Director Chief Superintendent Arnold Gunnacao, base sa naging obserbasyon ni Garcia.

 Matatandaan, na noong  1980s, ang double-decker buses ay unang ginamit na pampasahero  ng  Metro Manila Transit Corporation.

 Kung saan isa pang transport company, ang Matorco,  ang gumamit din ng double-decker buses  para magsakay ng  local at dayuhang turista sa kahabaan naman ng Roxas Boulevard, Maynila.

 Nabatid, na sa kasalukuyan ang double-decker buses ay ginagamit rin bilang shuttle bus ng mga shoppper sa Mall Of Asia (MOA) at gayundin sa Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority complex.
