Terminal fee sa mga OFW pinaiimbestigahan
MANILA, Philippines - Nais paimbestigahan ng isang Kongresista ang pagpapatupad ng P550 terminal fee sa overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
Inihain ni OFW Party-list Rep. Roy Señeres Sr. ang House Resolution 1656 na naglalayong ipatawag ang mga opisyal ng Manila International Airport Authority upang pagpaliwanagin sa kanilang Memorandum Circular 8 o ang the International Passengers Service Charge.
"The law exempts OFWs from the payment of the airport terminal fee. The circular contravenes the very spirit and intent of the law," paliwanag ni Señeres.
Dagdag ni Señeres na dapat ay kasama na sa airline ticket ng mga OFW ang terminal fee.
Maaari itong ma-refund sa pagpapakita lamang ng ilang papeles na nagpapatunay na isang OFW ang pasahero.
"The circular holds no water since the mere act of collecting airport terminal fees from OFWs already constitutes a violation of the law," the lawmaker said.
Nakasaad sa Republic Act 8042 o ang Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995 na hindi kinakailangang magbayd ng mga land-based at sea-based OFWs ng terminal fee.
