Pemberton ilipat sa normal na selda – Miriam

MANILA, Philippines –Matapos ilabas ang arrest warrant, nais ni Senador Miriam Defensor Santiago na ilipat sa normal na selda ang suspek sa pagpatay sa Filipino transgender na si US Marine Joseph Scott Pemberton.

“As we know, normally any person who has been formally accused in court goes to city jail. So he should go there,” wika ni Santiago.

Dagdag ng senador na ayaw niyang bigyan ng kakaibang trato ang isang dayuhang may ginawang krimen sa bansa.

“Whatever is normal procedure for the Filipinos should be taken as the normal measure as well otherwise we will be giving undue discrimination in favor of a foreign national to our own country,” pahayag ni Santiago.

“We don’t want that to happen. So, all the Philippines that is asking for is that with respect to what need to be done with Pemberton should be pursuant to the steps that would be done with a Filipino in his situation.”

Inilabas ng Olongapo City Regional Trial Court Branch 74 ang arrest warrant kahapon para sa kasong murder ni Pemberton sa umano'y pagpatay kay Jennifer Laude nitong Oktubre sa loob ng isang paupahang kuwarto sa Olongapo City.

Si Santiago ang chairperson ng Senate foreign relations committee, na dumidinig sa mga panawagan ng ilang grupo na buwagin ang Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at Amerika.

Umugong ang panawagan na ibasura na ang VFA matapos masawi si Laude.
