'Rice smuggling king' pinakakasuhan na

MANILA, Philippines — Iniutos na ng Department of Justice ngayong Miyerkules na pormal nang sampahan ng kaso ang itinuturong “rice smuggling king” na si Davidson Bangayan alyas David Tan,  dating National Food Authority (NFA) administrator Angelito Banayo at 10 iba pa.

Inaprubahan ni Justice Secretary Leila de Lima ang rekomendasyon ng National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) na kasuhan sina Bangayan, Banayo, NGA bids chairman Jose Cordero at mga empleyadong sina Cecilia Tan, Gilberto Lauengco, Carlito Go at Judy Carol Dansal.

Pinadadawit din sa kasong paglabag ang iba pang personalidad na nakilalang sina David at Judilyn Lim, Elizabeth Faustino, Eleonor Rodriguez, at Leila Echeveria.

Nahaharap sina Tan sa kasong paglabag sa Republic Act 9184 ng Government Procurement Act dahil sa mga anomalya sa ginawang bidding at paglabag sa Article 186 ng Revised Penal Code.

"By their act of combining, conspiring and agreeing with one another in the manipulation of the bidding process for the award of Rice Import Allocation from the NFA, they substantially and effectively cornered the supply of imported rice in the local market," sabi ng NBI.

Pinakakasuhan din si Tan dahil sa paggamit ng “fictitious name” na labag sa Article 178 ng Revised Penal Code at Commonwealth Act 142.
