Binay diskumpiyado sa mungkahi ng BIR sa bank secrecy

MANILA, Philippines – Kinontra ni Senador Nancy Binay ang mungkahi ng Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) na tanggalin ang back secrecy law para sa kanilang kampanya sa tamang pagbabayad ng buwis.

Sinabi ni Binay na maaaring magdulot ito ng “chilling effect” sa publiko at sa banking sector dahil mas mataas ang masamang epekto kumpara sa mabuti.

“Although I understand where Commissioner Kim is coming from as far as taxation is concerned, but her proposal has a chilling effect on the banking industry since there are more disadvantages than advantages,” wika ni Binay.

Nais tiyakin ng senadora na sa pagbubuwis lamang gagamitin ng BIR ang mga impormasyon na makukuha  sa oras na tanggalin ang naturang batas.

Samantala, sinabi nina Senador Francis Escudero, Grace Poe, Vicente Sotto III, at Sonny Angara na kailangan muna itong pag-aralang mabuti.

 â€œThere are costs and benefits to that and we must determine if the benefits outweigh the costs. The benefits are better tax administration by eliminating fraud, misdeclaration and concealment of income,” sabi ni Angara.

Para naman sa kanyang parte ay nais ni Poe na konsultahin ang banking industry bago ito ipatupad, habang nais ni Sotto na ipasuri muna sa Kongreso ang mungkahi ng BIR.

"The public might lose faith in the banks if their accounts are made open to scrutiny by the BIR. If this happens the economy may suffer," wika ni Poe.
