RH Law pinatigil ng SC

MANILA, Philippines - Ipinatigil ng Korte Suprema ang pagpapatupad ng Reproductive Health Law matapos ang  isinagawang en banc session kahapon.

Nagpalabas ang SC ng status quo ante order na may bisa sa loob ng 120 araw o apat na buwan para pigilan ang nakatakdang implementasyon ng Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Law of 2012.

Nabatid na 10 mahistrado ang bumoto pabor sa pagpapatigil ng implementasyon ng kontrobersiyal na batas na kinabibila­ngan nina Associate Justices Presbitero Velasco Jr., Teresita Leonardo De Castro, Arturo Brion, Diosdado Peralta, Lucas Bersamin, Roberto Abad, Martin Villarama Jr., Jose Perez, Jose Mendoza at Bienvenido Reyes.

Habang sina Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, Associate Justices Estala Perlas-Bernabe, Mariano del Castillo at Marvic Leonen ay kontra rito.

Itinakda ang oral arguments sa Hunyo 18, 2013, alas-2:00 ng hapon.

Sisimulan sana ang implementasyon ng RH Law sa darating na Marso 31 o Linggo ng Pagkabuhay matapos ang pagba­langkas ng Implementing Rules and Regulations nito.

Sinabi naman ng Ma­lakanyang na susunod sila sa kautusan ng Korte Suprema.

Sinabi ni Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda na tiwala silang mai­dedepensa ng pamahalaan ang mga merito ng RH Law.

“We will observe the SQA resolution issued by the Supreme Court and we are confident that government will be able to defend the merits of the Responsible Parenthood Law,” ayon kay Lacierda.
