Cebu archbishop bagong CBCP president

MANILA, Philippines - Sa gitna ng kontrobersiya hinggil sa  mamahaling sasakyan na tinanggap umano ng ilang obispo mula sa Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), naghalal ang Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) ng mga bagong opisyal nito.

Sa ginanap na bi-annual plenary meeting ng CBCP sa Pope Pius XII Catholic Center, hinirang si Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma bilang pangulo ng CBCP.

Magsisimula ang panunungkulan ni Palma sa Disyembre 1, 2011 kung saan papalitan niya si Tandag Bishop Nereo Odchimar na hindi na muling kumandidato.

Si Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas ang vice-president; Dumaguete Bishop John Du, treasurer habang si Msgr. Joselito Asis ang nahalal na secretary general.

Kaugnay nito, sinabi ni Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte, na bukas ang Palasyo kung nais ng bagong liderato ng CBCP na muling maupo sa dialogue ukol sa kontrobersyal na Responsible Parenthood na isinusulong ni Pangulong Aquino. (Doris Franche/Rudy Andal)
