Industriya ng pagmimina poprotektahan - DENR

MANILA, Philippines - Siniguro ni Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Ramon Paje na poprotektahan ng pamahalaan ang pamumuhunan sa industriya ng pagmimina tulad ng Tampakan Copper-Gold Project sa South Cotabato na nalagay sa panganib ang operasyon ng ipagbawal ng lalawigan ang open pit mining.

Sa talumpati sa 2011 Asia Mining Congress sa Singapore kamakailan, nilinaw ni Paje na pananagutan ng gobyerno ang $5.9-B Tampakan project. Aniya: “We are committed to resolve the Tampakan issue. It is a signed contract and must push through. We are harmonizing local and national policies toward a more friendly regime for the mining industry.”

Inihayag naman ni Mi­nes and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) chief Leo Jasareno na may kahilingan ang Chamber of Mines of the Philippines hinggil sa legalidad ng environment code ng South Cotabato na nagbabawal sa open pit mining. Nilagdaan ito ni dating gobernadora Daisy Fuentes at planong ipatupad ni Gov. Arthur Pingoy matapos pirmahan ang implementing rules and regulations (IRR) nito.
