Mayoral bet dinisqualify

MANILA, Philippines - Dniskuwalipika ng Commission on Elections ang kandidato sa pagka-alkalde ng Samal, Bataan dahil sa pagiging American citizen nito.

Sa limang pahinang desisyon ng Comelec 2nd division, ipinag-utos ng komisyon ang pag-disqualify kay Samal mayoral candidate Generosa Malibiran-Dela Fuente matapos mapatunayang hindi niya napawalang-bisa ang kanyang US citizenship.

Kabilang sa mga Comelec Commissioners na nag-utos ng diskwalipikasyon ni Dela Fuente ay sina Commissioners Nicodemo Ferrer, Lucenito Tagle at Elias Yusoph.

“The required renunciation is not limited to her foreign citizenship and allegiance to the United States of America, but that she must also renounce any and all foreign citizenship. It must be noted that this what the requires, and, therefore, we should stick to the letter and intent of the law. We should not equivocate. Moreover, it is far more prudent that we strictly adhere to the requirements of the law than to vacillate for in place were are not even in the position to do so,” ayon sa desisyon.

Pinaboran ng Comelec ang election protest ni Roseller “Ross” Navarro, kandidato rin sa pagka-alkalde, kung saan kinuwestiyon nito ang pagkakasama ng pangalan ni dela Fuente sa pangalan ng mga kandidato gayung hindi naman ito tunay Pinoy.
