Presidentiables alisin sa Ethics - Miriam

MANILA, Philippines – Hindi dapat mamuno o maging kasapi ng ethics committee ang mga Senador nas may ambis­yong tumakbo bilang Pa­ngulo sa 2010.

Ito ang mariing paha­yag ni Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago kasabay ng panawagan niya sa mga bumubuo ng ethics committee na may presidential ambition na magbitiw sa komite. Ito aniya ay upang hindi makuwes­tiyon ang anumang magi­ging desisyon nito.

Inihayag ni Santiago sa isang panayam na dapat mag-inhibit ang sinumang presidentiables na miyembro ng Ethics committee kung nililitis nito ang reklamong ini­hain laban sa isa pang presidentiable. “Any pre­si­dentiable should excuse or inhibit himself or herself from any matter where another presi­den­tiable might politically impacted because of the objectivity of that senator would be put in question.”

Apat na miyembro ng Ethics committee ay pawang presidentiables. Ito’y sina Sen. Panfilo Lacson, chairman; Sen. Richard Gordon, Sen. Loren Legarda at Sen. Mar Roxas, mga miyem­bro.

Sinabi pa ni Santiago na walang ibang ipinu­punto ang isinasagawang imbestigasyon laban kay dating Senate President Manny Villar kundi ang presidential elections sa 2010, at hindi ang aku­sas­yong double insertion sa C5 extension road project.

“There is nothing wrong with the order of the committee requesting Villar to answer the complaint but the moral question which is going to face us very soon in the immediate future is can you be a complainant and a judge at the same time, that is really the issue,” paliwanag niya.

Aniya pa, nagsimula ang akusasyon kina Lac­son at Sen. Jamby Madrigal ngunit sila ngayon ang pangunahing miyem­bro ng komite na siyang didinig ng reklamo. “At least I think the two senators (Lacson and Madrigal) can by themselves, by their own voluntary will, inhibit themselves on the ground that it would not be ethical to pass judgment and accusations that began with themselves. Dapat gawin na nila ito (pag-inhibit) kasi sa ngayon, malakas ang public sensitivity sa paparating na presidential election.”
