P25M magagastos sa random drug testing ng DepEd

Inihayag kahapon ng Department of Education (DepEd) na aabot sa P25 million ang magagastos para sa isasagawang random drug testing para sa mga high school students sa buong bansa.

Sinabi ni DepEd Assistant secretary for special Projects Thelma San­tos na sakop sa progra­mang ito ang 250,000 estudyante sa pribado at pampublikong paaralan kung saan ay naglaan ng P100 kada estudyante.

“The budget for the drug testing kit for each student is P30. The confirmatory testing, the forms, and everything else will amount to P100 per student,” ani Santos.

Nilinaw din ni Santos na tanging shabu at marijuana lamang ang kayang made-detect ng isasaga­wang drug testing dahil napakamahal ng testing kits para malaman ang para sa cocaine at ecs­tacy.

Nabatid na nilagdaan na ni DepEd Secretary Jesli Lapus ang kautusan para simulan ang random drug testing sa susunod na buwan sa pakikipag­tulungan ng Department of Health at nang Dangerous Drug Board na siyang magpapalabas ng guidelines para sa pagsusuri.

Nabatid pa na ang ka­gawaran ay nagpa­pairal na nang random drug testing simula pa noong 2005 subalit magkaka­roon ng kaunting pagba­bago ngayong taon. (Edwin Balasa)
