29 BOC at LTO officials kinasuhan

Kinasuhan kahapon ng Presidential Anti-Smuggling Group (PASG) sa Office of the Ombudsman ang may 29 na opisyal ng Bureau of Customs (BOC) at Land Transportatin Office (LTO) na natuklasang lumabag sa anti-graft and corrupt practices act. 

Sinabi ni PSG chief Undersecretary Antonio Villar Jr., bukod sa pagla­bag sa anti-graft ay lu­mabag din ang mga BOC officials na ito sa Tariff and Customs Code kaugnay sa pinaigiting na kampanya ni Pangulong Arroyo laban sa smuggling. 

Ang mg BOC officials na kinasuhan ng PASG sa Ombudsman ay sina Deputy collector for assessment Elizabeth delas Llagas, Deputy collector Maximo Reyes, Examiner Jamalodin Macadindang, Examiner Abdullah Basher, Atty. Baltazar Morales na hepe ng assessment division sa Subic Freeport, Examiner Robert Millares, assessment chief HR Her­nandez ng Subic, Examiner Kumar Buxani, assessment chief Conrado Abarintos ng Cebu Port, examiner Alexander Ca­bagnot ng Cebu Port at Ricardo Reluva na hepe ng cash division sa Port of Cebu. 

“We have to file charges so the law can take its regular course and also to show that we are serious of ridding the country of smugglers,” wika pa ni Usec. Villar. 

Ang mga opisyal na­man ng LTO na kinasuhan din ng PASG sa Ombudsman ay dahil sa umano’y pagkakadiskubre nila sa mga smuggled luxury vehicles sa isang warehouse sa Quezon City. 

Inaasahan naman ni Villar na mabilis na maaak­syunan ng Ombudsman ang kanilang isinampang kaso laban sa naturang mga opisyal ng BOC at LTO. (Rudy Andal/Angie dela Cruz)
