Pilipinas napiling VP sa UN

Hinirang ang Pilipinas bilang Vice President sa katatapos na 61st United Nations’ General Assembly, iniulat ng Philippine Mission to the United Nations kahapon.

Ayon sa report ni Ambassador Lauro Baja Jr., Permanent Representative to UN, kay Foreign Affairs Sec. Alberto Romulo, isa ang RP sa mga napili bilang bise presidente sa tinaguriang makapangyarihang UN body.

Sinabi ni Baja, na ang Pilipinas kasama ang mga bansang Indonesia, Kuwait at Bhutan ay inindorso ng may 54-member Asian Group na maupo sa bakanteng apat na vice president slots na nakareserba sa Asia.

"Being a vice president of the General Assembly makes us a member of the powerful General Committee, which is responsible for setting the agenda for the session," ani Ambassador Baja.

Sa kasalukuyan, ang Pilipinas ay isa sa vice presidents sa mga general committee na naghahanda sa agenda para sa sesyon. (Ellen Fernando)
