Self defense compulsory sa kababaihan

Dahil sa tumataas na bilang ng pang-aabuso at panghahalay sa mga kababaihan, inaprubahan ng House committee on women ang panukalang batas na nag-uutos na gawing compulsory ang pagtuturo ng self-defense sa mga paaralan.

Ang programa na tatawaging MOTHER (Movement to Help Eradicate Rape and Other Female Abuse) na inihain ni Zamboanga del Norte Rep. Roseller Barinaga ay magiging bahagi ang ‘basic self-defense programs’, ng Physical Education program para sa elementary, high school at college.

Ayon kay Barinaga, kailangang magbuo ng isang ahensiya na ilalagay sa ilalim ng Department of Education at Commission on Higher Education upang masigurong maisasama sa curriculum ang self-defense.

Sinuportahan ng Philippine Overseas Employment Agency ang panukala dahil maaari anila itong isama sa pre-departure at pre-employment orientation seminars ng mga kababaihang nais magtrabaho sa ibang bansa. (Ulat ni Malou Rongalerios)
