Gen. Garcia biglang 'nagkasakit' di sumipot sa House hearing

Hindi nakarating kahapon sa pagdinig ng House committee on national defense ang suspendidong si Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) comptroller Gen. Carlos Garcia matapos na isinugod sa ospital kamakalawa ng gabi dahil sa umano'y iba’t ibang sakit na nararamdaman.

Sa clinical abstract ni Garcia na nagmula sa Center of Respiratory Medicine ng UST Hospital, nakasaad dito na siya ay nahihirapang huminga at may "apneic episodes’.

"Admitting diagnoses included: sleep disordered breathing (Obstructive Sleep Apnea); chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD), in exacerbation and dyslipidemia," anang clinical abstract ni Garcia.

Ayon pa sa findings ni Dr. Ivan Villaspin, ang tumitingin sa heneral, noong 2002 ay nalimitahan ang pagkilos ng pasyente dahil biglang tumaas ang timbang nito.

"He was previously well until 2002 when he claimed to have excessive daytime somnolence. During this time as well, he noted limitation of his physical activities and subsequent gained physical weight," pahayag ni Garcia.

Hindi rin nakarating sa hearing na ipinatawag ng komite ni Parañaque Rep. Roilo Golez si AFP chief of staff Narciso Abaya dahil kasalukuyan itong nasa Tokyo, Japan pero dumating si Maj. Admiral Ariston delos Reyes bilang kinatawan nito.

Dahil dito, hindi ikinatuwa ng mga mambabatas ang hindi pagsipot ni Abaya at sa paraan nang paghawak ng liderato ng AFP sa sitwasyon.

Si Garcia ay nasasangkot sa kasong graft and corruption kaugnay ng pagkakamal ng $1.7 milyong tagong-yaman matapos na mabuking nang mahuling may dalang $100,000 ang kanyang anak na si Ian Carl sa paliparan ng Estados Unidos kamakailan. (Ulat ni Malou Rongalerios)
