Banat Opinyon

Sergio Osmeña Jr.

IYO ANTOY - Antolin dela Serna - Banat

Gobernador: December 30, 1951 – December 30, 1955; 2nd District Representative, March 18, 1957 – December 30, 1961.

Natawo December 4,1916.

Sa miaging ikaduhang gubat sa kalibotan, giingon dinhi, atong kutluon: “Osmeña was accused of collaborating with the Japanese in  World War II. He overcame the charges and returned to the Philippines and became President of the De La Rama Steamship Co.”

Sa ato nang gibatbat sa itaas, ania ang iyang political career: ”In 1951, he was elected provincial governor of Cebu and Mayor of Cebu City for three terms in 1955, 1959 and 1963. Elected as representative for the second district of Cebu in 1958, his notable work as fiscalizer brought him recognition from the Congressional Press Club which voted him as one of the Ten Most Outstanding Congressmen of 1959. In the November 1965 elections, he won a seat in the Philippine Senate.

Sa inyo nang nasayran, ang holiday declaration na-contain sa Proclamation No. 1053 nga gitiman-an ni Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, nga nagkanayon: “It is but fitting and proper that the people of the Province of Cebu be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies, subject to community quarantine, social distancing, and health measures.”

The purpose is to give the next generation and generation to come to be fully aware that at one point, there was a Cebuano who made a difference in the lives of the Cebuanos with the construction of the North Reclamation project, with the bridge connecting Mactan Cebu and for having conceptualized the Mactan Cebu International Airport.

“Serging already thought ahead of his time. That there was going to be a time that the jumbo jets will replace the propeller type and these need a longer runway and the best place was Mactan.”
