Coast Guard rescues 19 people off Samal Island
According to the Philippine Coast Guard, the victims came from Barangay Panacan in Davao City and were heading to Sanipaan Island in Barangay Tambo to swim.

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — At least 19 beach goers were rescued after their boat capsized off Samal Island here yesterday.

According to the Philippine Coast Guard, the victims came from Barangay Panacan in Davao City and were heading to Sanipaan Island in Barangay Tambo to swim.

However, a strong current reportedly hit the boat, causing it to capsize. The Coast Guard brought the rescued beach goers back to Panacan.
