MANILA, Philippines — Up to 487 personnel of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) were subjected to random drug tests yesterday.

NCRPO director Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin led the drug testing during the guard mounting and reporting of New Year’s duty personnel at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig.

Aberin and the police officers submitted urine samples, which will be examined for traces of illegal drugs.

“This random drug testing shows the NCRPO’s commitment to integrity and trustworthiness within the ranks,” he said.

Police officers who will be found positive for drug use will be immediately relieved from their posts.

Their urine samples will then be subjected to confirmatory testing.

If the second drug test gives the same results, the police officers will be dismissed from the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Drug use is a grave offense in the PNP, Aberin said.

He said the drug testing is part of the PNP’s commitment to the national campaign against illegal drugs by ensuring a drug-free workforce.

“We shall aspire to embody the values of the PNP. As members of the police organization, we should show that we are examples of accountability,” Aberin said.

96 Quezon City cops negative for drugs

Ninety-six personnel of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) were found negative for drug use yesterday.

They underwent random drug testing during an emergency conference led by QCPD director Col. Melecio Buslig Jr. at Camp Karingal.

Buslig said they conducted the drug tests in support of Aberin’s initiative to weed out drug users from the police force.
