No work, no pay today – DOLE
MANILA, Philippines — Employees who will not work today to celebrate the Lunar New Year will not be getting any pay, according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
In an advisory yesterday, the DOLE said the “no work, no pay” rule shall apply today, which has been declared a special non-working holiday to commemorate the Chinese New Year.
The DOLE said employees who would report for work should receive an additional 30 percent of their daily basic pay for the first eight hours of service.
“For work done for more than eight hours, the employer should pay workers an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate,” the department noted.
Employees whose day off falls today but render services should receive an additional 50 percent of their basic daily wage for the first eight hours of work.
An additional 30 percent should be given to employees who will work for more than eight hours.
The DOLE issued the advisory to guide employers and workers on payment of wages for the special non-working day.
No number coding
Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) suspended the expanded number coding scheme today.
The MMDA noted that traffic gridlock is expected in areas such as Manila’s Chinatown in Binondo, where the Chinese-Filipino community holds festivities for the Lunar New Year.
In Caloocan, some roads are closed today for its 63rd cityhood anniversary.
