CEBU, Philippines - Gikumpirmar ni Msgr. Achilles Dakay sa Archdiocese of Cebu nga nasuspenso si Msgr. Cristobal Garcia niadto pang Hunyo sa wala pa mibuto ang kontrobersiyang iyang giatubang karun sa kalambigitan sa illegal ivory trade dinhi sa Pilipinas.
Ang chairman on the committee on pilgrims miklaro nga si Garcia nasuspenso tungod sa iyang kasong child abuse niadtong didto pa siya sa gawas sa nasud. Gikan sa kasong sibil nahimo na kining ecclesiastical case kay napasaka naman kini sa Holy See.
“What happened in the States could be a crime but if it was a sin, on his part, that has been repented and forgiven but ang criminal aspect man gud ang na-raise ngadto sa Vatican. I really do not know, I thought it was closed in the State as civil case, I don’t know nganong naabot pa na sa Church case,” matud pa ni Dakay.
Bisan sa maong pagkasuspenso, giklaro ni Dakay nga lakip gihapon si Garcia sa archdiocese apan dili na kini makahimo sa iyang mga duties ug within sa jurisdiction sa archdiocese.
Matud pa ni Dakay nga gimandoan si Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma sa Vatican nga isuspenso si Garcia.
“In regards to the matter of Msgr. Garcia’s past, the case has been elevated to the Holy See and it has initiated the investigation into it long before the present controversy erupted. I have also fulfilled the Holy See’s instructions regarding submission of documents and acting upon related consequences,” matud pa ni Palma.
Tungod niini dili na makamisa si Garcia sa publikong lugar, dili na pud siya makapakompisal isip silot sa Canon Law.
Gihulipan pud siya sa iyang mga nabiyaan nga mga position sa archdiocese sama sa pagka-chairman sa Commission on Worship of the Cebu Archdiocese.
“In recent pronouncements, the Church has stated her regret for the failure to address the problem in a more decisive and effective way. Cultural practices have contributed to the misunderstanding of the problem,” matud ni Palma.
Giklaro usab ni Palma ang pagkalambigit kang Garcia sa isyu sa ivory smuggling walay labot niini ang Simbahan tungod sa mga koleksyon kini sa pamilya Garcia ug dili sa archdiocese. Iya pong gitataw nga dili mataktak si Garcia sa iyang pagkapari tungod lang niini. “We are priests forever and it’s impossible that he will be out,” niya pa.
