Japan kakampi ng Pinas sa South China Sea dispute

MANILA, Philippines – Tiniyak ni Japanese Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera ngayong Huwebes na suportado ng kanilang bansa ang Pilipinas sa pakikipag-agawan nito sa China ng teritoryo sa South China Sea.

Sinabi ni Onodera kay Department of National Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin na makikipagtulungan ang Japan upang maresolba ang isyu sa China.

"We agreed that we will further cooperate in terms of defense of remote islands as well as the defense of territory, or territorial sea as well as protection of maritime interest ... We will cooperate with the Philippine side in this matter," pahayag ni Onoder.

Naniniwala ang Japanese official na nahaharap sa “common concerns” ang Japan at Pilipinas kaugnay ng gusot ng dalawang bansa sa China. May tensyon din sa pagitan ng Japan at China dahil sa teritoryo naman sa East China Sea.

"I also said that Japan(ese) side is very concerned that this kind of situation in South China Sea (as it) could affect the situation in East China Sea," dagdag ni Onoder.

Iginiit ni Onoder na hindi kailangan ang marahas na paraan upang maresolba ang gusot sa South China Sea.

"I would like to emphasize here that the current situation should not be changed with use of force ... I think this the concept that is agreed upon in international communities these days," sabi ni Onoder.

Dagdag ni Onoder na prioridad pa rin nila ang protektahan ang kanilang teritoryo sa kalupaan, katubigan, kalangitan.

Dumaan muna si Onodera sa U.S. naval base sa Subic Bay bago nakipagpulong kay Gazmin, habang balak naman bumisita ni Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe sa bansa sa Hulyo.
