COTABATO CITY, Philippines - A 29-year-old mother was killed while her five-year-old daughter and husband were seriously injured when a speeding truck rammed their motorcycle in Makilala, North Cotabato on Monday.
Investigators identified the fatality as Janeth Castro, of Barangay Luayon, a secluded district in Makilala.
Castro and her daughter, Mica, were riding their motorcycle driven by her husband, Ruben, 34, when they were hit by a speeding truck from behind.
The family was driving along a secluded stretch of the Cotabato-Davao Highway near the town proper of Makilala when the incident happened.
Castro, who was thrown several meters away from the collision spot, died from head injuries.
Truck driver Esperidion Niala, 28, immediately surrendered to the local police and turned his driver’s license and the registration documents of his truck, an Isuzu Rio bearing license plates MDA-797.
Castro’s injured daughter and husband are now confined in a hospital.
