One true love
Functional and fashion forward, that is how she describes her bag creations. True Love by Veronica. Veronica King is the name of this 22-year-old talented young woman. She recently opened her store at the third level of Robinsons Galleria’s main gallery.
Since I am at Galleria every day — that’s where I hang out a couple of hours before picking up my children from their school which is just right across the mall — I know practically every store here.
That particular day, I happened to pass by Veronica’s store on its opening day. Immediately, I took notice of how unique her bags were. I introduced myself and asked if I could feature her creations in my column. And this is what I found out.
Veronica comes from a family of four children — ages 25, 23, 22 and 12. Her dad is Bicolano and her mom, Ilocana. She finished Entreprenuership at
At the young age of seven, she received from her parents a plastic sewing machine. Her first attempt was a pair of shorts which she transformed into a skirt. She would also watch their neighbor who was a tailor. Her mom also knew how to sew blankets. It was also her mom who taught her pattern making for bags.
In her third year in college, she and her classmates were offered an entreprenuership corner at Robinsons Galleria in 2005. During that time, she sold accessories and embellished shirts. Her classmates baked goodies, hand painted rubber shoes, zipper-bags, even sold coffee and pandesal. It was a wonderful experience for them.
Aside from that, she also joined Christmas bazaars. This talented woman already immersed herself with all these. This time, however, she’s only taken it a step further. She started conceptualizing True Love by Veronica May of this year, applied at Robinsons Galleria and opened last June.
For one design, she only makes four pieces. Her materials are local and I applaud that. Sariling atin! You may also have made-to-order bags if you want a design truly your own.
Aside from her bags, she has used her store as a venue for showcasing the works of two other talented women — Monica Pe, her 18-year-old cousin; and jewelry-sculpture artist, Ming Ong. All their works are hand-made. In fact, when you get Ming’s accessories, you will see Kathang Kamay written on the tag.
Monica’s accessories are a hit among teenagers like her. They are reasonably priced. Very affordable for that age range.
Ming’s pieces are so beautiful! Each one is uniquely crafted. You will know what I mean when you see them.
True Love by Veronica’s mission is to generate employment, promote the Filipino talent and encourage creativity. This woman’s vision has already come true.
She has already given employment to Monica and Ming and has encouraged their creativity to showcase their Filipino talent. She has also provided work to her hardworking sewer, Arnel Llagas, who supports his three children. Veronica also has two hardworking salesladies, Karla and Mary.
Veronica King has given life to her passion — a passion that has given many people her beautiful creations. This passion has made her life and the life of others more meaningful.
