A Rev-eerie?

BEAUTY'S SECRETS - BEAUTY'S SECRETS By Chechel Joson -
It’s that time of the year again when we could all be dressed up like a spooky or dreamy character for Halloween. My greatest Halloween experience was in Salem, Massachusetts. Salem is believed to be the home of witch trials in 1692. From then on, this small, quaint and eerie town has been the ultimate place to celebrate Halloween.

I have never seen a town go all out for Halloween, where everybody – and I mean every living creature, even dogs – was in a costume. It was a spectacular surreal night. Partygoers were dressed to win the competition, so they spent from $5 to $500 for this one-night celebration. The memorable ones were, of course, the scary ones. Who would want to be in the company of a witch or a vampire or a zombie in Salem? No one! The fairies and the princesses and genies, especially the princes and Aladdins were the ones you would want to smile at. The surreal looking ones were the ones that one would aspire to be. Of course, Frankenstein won the competition but he went home alone. So the choice is up to you.

Choosing a character you wish to be on Halloween is quite difficult. There are so many characters to choose from and to consider. First is your budget. Are you willing to spend or not? Then consider your hair and makeup to make sure your character is recognizable. If it is doable for the hair and makeup, then your wardrobe will do the rest to complete your "look."

Here are a few ideas that are quite easy to do and are economical, too. One great look is that of an angel. All you have to do here is to either stay with your hair color and just set it so you’ll have nice curls to go with your "shimmery" face or try to look for a blonde wig. In the photo, I used the model’s own hair and curled it like a cherub’s. All you need now is a white dress and a pair of fabulous wings – that you can rent, of course and poof, you’re an angel!
Get the Angel look:
1. Cleanse, tone and moisturize if needed.
2. Groom eyebrows.
3. Even out skin tone with foundation.
4. Set with loose powder.
5. Line eyes with blue eye pencil.
6. Curl lashes and apply mascara.
7. Apply pink blush.
8. Brush white shimmer all over face.
9. Finish with nude lip shimmer.

Another very fast and easy way is to find a mask. Well, in this case, a masquerade mask. All you have to do here is to emphasize your eyes. Make your eyes talk underneath that mask. You also have to make your lips come out more because this is one feature that will not be hidden. You can wear your hair up in a fancy do or wear it down in soft, big waves. Find a fabulous ball gown (one might be hidden somewhere in your closet or your friend’s) and you’re all set.
Get the Masquerade look:

2. Groom eyebrows.
3. Even out skin tone with foundation.
4. Set with loose powder.
5. Rim entire eyes with black kohl liner.
6. Curl lashes and apply about three coats of mascara.
7. Line lips with lip pencil.
8. Finish with a wine lip color.

Another famous character that is often portrayed on Halloween is the French royal, Queen Marie Antoinette. You can either change your skin tone and make your face look super white and add your red lipstick and pink blush or you can stay with your skin tone (which will save you money) and add your pink blush and red lip color. Either way will work with your wig (that will make the look happen) and of course your 18th century French-inspired gown (that again, you can rent). This character would be best suited for women with very fair skin.

4. Set with loose powder.
5. Apply rose-colored blush.
6. Finish with red lipstick.
7. Hair: Tie your hair in a neat clean bun before putting the Marie Antoinette wig.

Go all out and have fun. This only happens once a year. If I were you, I’d check out the costume rentals right now, or have your costume made. Whichever way you want it, start now while you have time to plan it. Why be a witch when you can be an angel? Why be a peasant when you can be a queen? Why hide under blood and wrinkles when you can hide under glitters and feathers? Do you really want to scare people or give them some reverie? There are endless characters you can be on Halloween. The list goes on and on. It’s just a matter of making your statement or character glow in this one eerie night.
