MANILA, Philippines -- Filipino Olympic gymnast Carlos Yulo bagged the gold medal in the parallel bars event of the 2024 FIG Artistic Gymnastics Apparatus World Cup Saturday evening in Doha.
Yulo finished on top of the competition after garnering a difficulty score of 6.3 and execution score of 8.900, good for a total of 15.200 points.
He ended ahead of Chinese Taipei’s Yuan-Hsi Hung, who had a total of 14.966, and Brazil’s Caio Souza, who recorded 14.566.
In the qualification round, he ranked second behind Uzbekistan’s Rasulkon Abdurakhimov. In the final, the Uzbek finished fifth with a score of 13.933.
The Filipino also finished with a silver medal in the men’s vault final.
The 24-year-old managed to tally a score of 15.066, good for second place, behind Armenia’s Artur Davtyan, who took home the gold with a score of 15.166.
Coming in third in the competition is Belarusian gymnast Yahor Sharamkou, who had a score of 14.749.
Yulo is one of three Filipinos who have punched their ticket to the Paris Olympics later this year.
The other two are Levi Ruivivar and Aleah Finnegan.
