MPL PH Season 12: RSG stops ECHO's streak; TNC gets boot

MANILA, Philippines – Leaving up to their reputation as king slayers, RSG Philippines denied ECHO the record of longest winning streak by sweeping the defending champions, 2-0, in the closing match of Week 5 of the Mobile Legends Bang Bang Professional League Philippines (MPL PH) Season 12 at the Shooting Gallery Studios in Makati City.

Though ECHO's win streak has ended, the Orcas still top the leaderboard with 29 points after 11 wins and one defeat. The team's victories versus Smart Omega and TNC Pro Team over the weekend have secured them not only a playoffs spot but also one of two Upper Bracket advantages.

Teams that have also secured a playoffs spot are AP Bren and Blacklist International, both of which swept their match-ups against both ONIC Philippines and Minanan EVOS. RSG Philippines, though securing a big win against ECHO, had earlier fallen to Minana EVOS but had managed to secure enough points to also book their trip to the playoffs.

Out of the running, however, are TNC Pro Team, who suffered an early exit after losing against both ECHO and Smart Omega over the weekend. Though the Phoenix Army saw an early win in the season, unlike seasons prior, TNC Pro Team would not be able to ride the momentum and would see a nine game losing streak and eventually being eliminated by Smart Omega.

Along with the barangay, ONIC Philippines and Minana EVOS are all fighting for the last two playoffs spots. ONIC Philippines suffered back to back losses over the weekend to plunge them to the lower half of the standings while Minana EVOS is hanging on to the dream as they secured much needed points after their sweep of RSG Philippines.

The regular season continues Friday, October 13, with Minana EVOS versus ECHO at 1:30 p.m. followed by Smart Omega versus AP Bren at 4 p.m. and TNC Pro Team against ONIC Philippines at 6:30 p.m.
