New PNA blunders amid editorial board under Andanar

MANILA, Philippines (Updated 5:40 p.m.) — Several stories from state-run Philippine News Agency have been published erroneously despite the creation of a new editorial board led by Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar.
A few of the news agency's old articles appeared with editor's notes as headlines on its website.
As of writing time, the PNA has shut down its website after the incident. However, some netizens were able to take screenshots of the articles before the site was placed under maintenance.

Last August, Andanar formed an editorial board for PNA in response to controversies regarding the state-run news agency.
The PNA also drew flak for posting an erroneous photo of the DOLE Philippines logo on a story pertaining to the Department of Labor and Employment.
'Please bear with us'
PCOO Undersecretary Joel Sy Egco, who supervises the operations of PNA, said that the flaws in the system of the state-run news agency is being addressed.
"Please bear with us," Sy Egco said in a statement.
Sy Egco noted that "birth pains" are expected as the news agency is under transition from "the old to the new."
The PCOO official assured the public that incidents of negligence and incompetence will be dealt with accordingly.
"We are determined to bring back that old journalistic fervor that once defined editors and reporters of the news agency in its 'glory' days," he said.
