2nd exit taxiway to help decongest NAIA runway
MANILA, Philippines - The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) is constructing the second rapid exit taxiway at runway 06-24 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to lessen the waiting time of departing local and foreign aircraft.
MIAA general manager Ed Monreal said the second taxiway will significantly decongest the long lines of departing aircraft waiting for clearance to take off.
At present, international runway 06-24 has only one rapid exit taxiway where arriving planes proceed to maneuver toward the terminal, forcing other planes to wait their turn.
With the construction of the second taxiway, pilots can easily remove their plane upon landing to give way for other arriving and departing aircraft in-line to use the runway, Monreal said.
International flights with smaller aircraft like the Airbus A320 can land and take off using the domestic runway 13-31 in case of emergency, Monreal added.
Meanwhile, MIAA has completed the repair of pavement at the taxiway Charlie G5 and G6. The repair work did not affect flights as the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines issued a Notice to Airmen (notam) announcing the pavement repair from 9 a.m. of Monday to 9 a.m. Tuesday.
