It’s British Food Month at premier hotels
MANILA, Philippines - The UK is famous the world over for its rich culture and heritage. However, the diversity and excellence of modern British cuisine remains largely undiscovered in the Philippines.
To allow Filipinos the chance to experience the different aspects and wide variety of British cuisine without having to go abroad, the British Embassy and its partners welcome 2014 with a British Food Month ongoing until Feb. 9.
British Ambassador Asif Ahmad invites food lovers to enjoy British cuisine being offered during the event, explaining that British food, as commonly perceived by Filipinos, is actually a reflection of what it was 20 years ago. He expressed excitement that this celebration will allow food lovers in the country to change this notion and discover for themselves the gastronomic evolution that has redefined and elevated British cuisine.
“Filipinos and Britons share a passion for food. We are pleased to be working with the top hotels and some great British brands to offer a huge variety and range of flavors. Food and drink is a key sector for the UK and one of our growing exports to the world. We are known for the freshness, sustainability and quality of our food, as well as for our continuous research and innovation. We have adapted to foreign influences and we have rediscovered some of our old recipes. We hope that British Food Month will show you that UK cuisine is more than just fish and chips,†said Ahmad.
Exciting food offerings by premier hotels in Metro Manila will be available throughout the month.
The Dusit Thani holds a “Great British Carvery Brunch†all Sundays of January, and will be hosting visiting British chef Derek Quelch, who will be preparing special menus. EDSA Shangri-La hosts “High Tea†at their new Lobby Lounge, and will offer “The Great British Feast†by British executive chef Warren Brown at Heat. Meanwhile, UK-based hotel chain Intercontinental Manila will be having British Pub Grub at Gambrinus Bar and Sol Y Sombra, while British-owned Mandarin Oriental will offer British-themed business lunch at Tosca and a unique Anglo-Indian buffet at Paseo Uno from Feb. 3 to 9 to cap the promotion.
UK brands are also participating in British Food Month.
There are breakfast cereals from Marks & Spencer at 20 percent off until Jan. 31.
British food month is part of “This is Great Britain†campaign, a five-month celebration of the best of British business and culture, which will culminate in March 2014 with the Great British Festival weekend at Bonifacio High Street.
