SBP holds tryouts for US youth caging

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas is conducting tryouts for boys 13 years and under who will represent the country in the Youth Basketball of America State Championship in Florida, USA, on July 29, 2009.

Former Red Warrior Mark Herrera, assistant coach of the PBL Burger King Whoopers and head coach of two-time Jr. PBA champion Quezon City-Talk N Text, will coach the team. He will be assisted by coach PJ Navarro of Ateneo.

Herrera, who is also assistant coach of the UE Pages, said the tryouts, which is also open to out-of-school youths, will be held Nov. 9, 1-6 p.m., at the Xavier School in Greenhills, San Juan.

Participants must present a copy of their NSO Certified Birth Certificate.

“We would like to encourage all boys 13 years old and under, even the out-of-school youths to join the tryouts. This is a big opportunity to showcase their talents,” said Herrera, a former mainstay of the UE Red Warriors in the UAAP.

The tryouts are part of the talent identity program of the SBP under president Manny V. Pangilinan, vice-chairman Ricky Vargas, SBP youth commission chairman Nic Jorge, and SBP executive director Noli Eala.
