Yeo, Ravena to reinforce Mighty Sports in Merlion Cup

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - PBA veteran Joseph Yeo and two-time UAAP MVP Kiefer Ravena hope to provide additional firepower as they backstop the Mighty Sports Apparel-Philippine squad vying in the Merlion Cup beginning Sept. 21 in Singapore.

The two hotshots have been added to the Mighty Sports roster, which is also reinforced by former Gilas naturalized player Marcus Douthit and ex-PBA import Al Thornton.

Yeo, who plays for the GlobalPort Batang Pier in the PBA, is a 10-year veteran who was also an amateur standout, from his high school days at Xavier School to his stint with the De La Salle Green Archers from 2001 to 2004.

He will be teaming up with another former Xavier Stallion and Green Archer, TY Tang.

It will be the first time the two will be playing together since beating archrival Ateneo for the UAAP men’s basketball crown in 2001.

Yeo and Tang are part of the “Xavier connection” in the Mighty Sports team, headed by coach and Xavier alumnus Charles Tiu. Brothers Gabriel and Raphael Banal, members of the Xavier School teams that dominated the Tiong Lian tournaments from 2001 to 2011, are also joining the squad.

Ravena, on the other hand, led the Ateneo Blue Eagles to two championships, picking up two MVP awards during his five-year stint with the Loyola-based school.

He is expected back from the US in time for the Merlion Cup.

The inclusion of Yeo and Ravena is expected to provide more depth and versatility to the Mighty Sports Apparel squad which topped the recent Jones Cup and whose Singapore campaign is supported by HC Technology Pte. Ltd., Huishi International Group Co. Ltd., Cebuana Lhuillier and Scratch It.
