Perpetual bares new coaching staff

MANILA, Philippines – A three-man coaching staff consisting of a lawyer, former import and school owner will be at the helm of the Perpetual Help Altas' campaign in the 92nd NCAA senior basketball season next year.

Jeff Tamayo, the school's athletic director and representative to the NCAA Management Committee, on Tuesday said Perpetual Help owner Antonio Tamayo, Atty. Neil Barry Tobias and Nigerian Nic Omorogbe have been appointed as coaches of the Altas, succeeding over Aric del Rosario.

"We're happy and confident with our new coaching staff and they will start preparations anytime now," said Tamayo.

Tamayo owns all of Perpetual Help's chain of schools and hospitals and is a former teammate of Del Rosario at University of Santo Tomas' high school cage team and founding head of Phl soft tennis while Tobias is a La Salle alumnus who finished law school at Perpetual Help.

Omorogbe, for his part, was part of the Perpetual Help squad that made the Final Four in 2012 and 2013.

The recent appointment at Perpetual thus left the Letran Knights as the only remaining team without a coach after Aldin Ayo, who steered the Muralla-based school to last year's title, left to coach for La Salle in the UAAP.

Kerby Raymundo, who helped the school win the 1998 and 1999 NCAA championships, is reportedly being eyed to take over from Ayo.
