Ric V. Obedencio - The Freeman

TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines  – Representative Erico B. Aumentado of the 2nd district of Bohol died Tuesday at past 8 p.m. due to “multiple organ malfunction” while confined at the St. Luke’s Hospital in Gobal city, Metro Manila.

Aumentado is survived by his wife, Greenie and seven children. He was 72, said his aide at his residence in this city.

Pernia said the remains of the congressman is now in a funeral parlor in Manila and would be given first a tribute by Congress today or on Thursday prior to bringing him home to this capital town of Bohol, sometime tomorrow, Friday.

He will be buried at the Victoria Homes here but no specific date yet for this, said his aide.

Pernia said that the death of Aumentado “will not weaken his more plans for good governance but this would instead strengthen his resolve. He was a visionary statesman.”

Aumentado was known for the mega-infrastructure projects that Bohol is now enjoying, and has been credited as responsible for the construction of three big dams --- Capayas Dam in his hometown of Ubay; Malinao Dam in Pilar town; and Bayongan Dam in San Miguel town.

He was also instrumental in the construction of more than 250-kilometer paved road called the Bohol Circumferential Road during his stint as congressman and governor.

Aumentado served as PB member, vice governor, congressman and governor for three terms each and then congressman recently until his demise.

He was then deputy House speaker and president of the League of Governors and Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP). (FREEMAN)
