From the streets of New York City

THE PEPPER MILL - Pepper Teehankee - The Philippine Star

New York City is a melting pot of different cultures. This is evident in the city’s diverse taste in art, food and fashion. The city’s cultural diversity often brings inspiration to many.

The streets of New York City inspired the recent Lee Jeans Philippine Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014 runway at the SM Mall of Asia Atrium. Models paraded the iconic American jeans brand’s latest collection in strips that resembled the streets of the Big Apple. With the unique setup, every spot gave an up-close view of each streetwear ensemble.

True to Lee’s “Stay Curious” campaign, the Spring/Summer 2014 collection features pieces that highlighted the many possibilities of denim engineering, which mirrors the diversity of the edgy style of New York.

The collection made for men and women also unveiled the brand’s signature Union Made Lee101+ and the Lee Stretch Deluxe line made of quality stretchable Italian fabric that provides an even leaner and flattering fit.

The event, hosted by KC Montero, marked Lee’s 125th year of superb craftsmanship with a presentation of the works of Lee Style Army 2013 participants. The winning Team Futurama brought us to the future, ruled by neon beams and black leatherette. The team was composed of Nazer Molina (UST), Van Oscar Tabaloc (UP-Cebu) and Paulina Raymundo (DLS-CSB) for fashion design and John Karunungan (SoFA) for styling. Student models brought life to the collections, with Lin Villacorta (UP-Diliman) and Arwin Villafuerte (DLSU) emerged as this year’s best models.

Lee also showed the works of brand influencers who participated at the Denim DIY Workshop such as artist Leeroy New, Turbo Goth vocals Sarah Gaugler, muralist Dee Jae Pa’este, accessories designer Paul Jatayna, fashion designer Jerome Lorico, Pro Formula Racer and designer Mark Bumgarner and sister IndyCar racer Michele Bumgarner.

Lee served guests with the iconic New York Sabrett Hotdogs and gelato from a cart New York style.
