The Philippine elections as told by Facebook

MANILA, Philippines – What a time to be alive, indeed.
For many millennials, today's national election is a testament on how times are a-changin'. Most of the people who belong in that generation are likely to have been in two kinds of elections - one that saw voters manually cast their votes, and eventually, another one aided with machines.
But another footnote that's worth bringing up is how much of the election battle was fought online. Six years ago, Facebook was merely a tool for reconnecting with friends you haven't talked to. Now, it's turned into an arena of differing opinions, a massive cog in a politician's campaign machine and even a tool for propaganda.
With the help of the social media behemoth, we at Philstar.com tried to make sense of it all. Using data whipped up by Facebook, join us as we take a look at the numbers indicating preferences for different candidates.
A trove of data shared to the PhilStar.com team by Facebook revealed that 22 million people actually engaged in conversations relating to the Philippine national elections. This propelled us atop of the Asia-Pacific region in terms of most-engaged elections.
