Cattle dispersal program to help Quezon farmers

- Michelle Zoleta -

LUCENA CITY , Philippines  – Twenty-two Brahman cattles were turned over to farmer beneficiaries in Quezon last week as part of the livelihood project of the government.

Quezon Rep. Irvin Alcala earlier requested the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) office in Masbate to share their stocks of pure bred Brahman cattles to help farmers in their province.

The turnover was held on March 29 at the Philippine Ports Authority compound in Talao, Lucena City. Farmer-beneficiaries came from Tiaong, Dolores, San Antonio, Candelaria, Sariaya, and Lucena City.

Remy Acasio, of the BAI-Masbate, earlier conducted a seminar for farmers prior to the turnover of the cattles.

The Cattle Dispersal Program of Alcala is being implemented in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and the Rotary Club of the province.

Alcala asked the farmers to take good care of the cattles which reportedly have a value ranging from P20,000 to P45,000.

Under a memorandum of agreement with the government, the farmer-beneficiaries are mandated to give to the BAI the offspring of the cattle, preferably female, not less than 150 kilos in weight and not less than 12 months in age.
