Typhoon to bring rain but will not enter PAR

MANILA, Philippines — A typhoon with international name Nyatoh is expected to further intensify but will no longer enter the Philippine area of responsibility, according to the state weather bureau.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the trough of the typhoon was expected to bring rain over the eastern sections of the country.

PAGASA said scattered light to moderate with at times heavy rain and thunderstorms would be experienced over Bicol, the Visayas and Mindanao.

The typhoon was monitored at around 1,495 kilometers east of Northern Luzon as of 3 p.m. yesterday. It was moving north at 15 kms per hour.

The typhoon was forecast to reach its peak intensity of 140 kph last night or this morning as it moves generally northeast.

PAGASA said intensification of the typhoon would ”likely be short-lived as an increase of wind shear and the intrusion of cooler and drier air will lead to its rapid weakening” beginning tomorrow.

The typhoon is forecast to decelerate tomorrow and degenerate into a remnant extratropical low by Sunday night or early Monday.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said light rains could be expected over Cagayan Valley, the Cordilleras and Aurora due to the northeast monsoon.

Localized thunderstorms will bring cloudy skies and isolated rains over Mindanao, Mimaropa and the rest of the Visayas.
