MANILA, Philippines — Six men died after a house under renovation collapsed in Quezon City on Friday night.

Ryan Rigueros, 31; Benito Anora, 45; Nilo Manguso, 46; Rey Diestro, 23; John Gabin, 52, and Donald Conde were pinned underwater by debris when the house crashed into the Culiat River in Barangay Bahay Toro at around 9:30 p.m., according to rescue personnel.

Efren Milan, 48, and Fredelito Rigueros, 56, were injured in the incident.

Probers said Anora, Diestro, Conde and Milan were working on the renovation while Manguso and Diestro were visiting the owners.

The victims were on the second floor when the house collapsed. Milano and the elder Rigueros, though injured, were able to seek help from neighbors.

Meanwhile, maintenance worker Jessie Tanum, 29, died after a drainage canal along Vicente Avenue in Barangay Old Balara caved in at around 9 a.m.

Tanum died at the scene from head injuries even as rescue personnel tried to revive him, police said.

Police said Tanum and a co-worker were removing water from the drainage canal when it collapsed.
