Man, 64, stabbed dead by son in Mandaluyong City
MANILA, Philippines — An ailing 64-year-old man was stabbed dead by his son in their house in Barangay Addition Hills, Mandaluyong City at past midnight yesterday.
Rodolfo Bonsato’s body, which bore a stab wound in the chest, was already stiff when a neighbor, Edwin San Gaspar, came to check on him at around 7 a.m., according to Senior Superintendent Bernabe Balba, Eastern Police District director.
Rodolfo’s son, Rolando, 43, was arrested at a relative’s house during a follow-up operation by the Mandaluyong police.
Balba said Rolando admitted his crime.
Rolando, who is jobless, was the sole caregiver of his father, who suffered from an unspecified ailment, police said. His mother died a few years ago.
Neighbors often heard the elder Bonsato scolding his son and the two of them quarreling.
Senior Police Officer 3 Emmanuel Ermino said a witness, Jimmy Reyes, heard the two men quarreling and then Rodolfo shouting for help at around 2 a.m. Rodolfo was discovered dead around five hours later.
Ermino said Rolando hacked his father during an argument years ago but the elder Bonsato did not file a formal complaint.
Rolando is not a drug user and had no derogatory record with the local police, Ermino said. A charge of parricide is set to be filed against him.
