LPA develops into Tropical Depression Josie
Scattered to widespread moderate to heavy rains would be experienced over several areas in Luzon.

MANILA, Philippines — The low-pressure area spotted off Ilocos Sur has developed into Tropical Depression Josie, the state weather bureau announced Saturday.

In its 11 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said "Josie" was spotted at 195 kilometers west northwest of Sinait, Ilocos Sur with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 60 kilometers per hour.

"Josie" is forecast to slowly move northeast. 

Tropical cyclone warning Signal No. 1 has been hoisted over the following areas:

  • Batanes
  • northern Cagayan
  • Babuyan Group of Islands
  • Ilocos Norte
  • northern portion of Ilocos Sur
  • Apayao
  • northern portion of Abra

PAGASA said scattered to widespread moderate to heavy rains would be experienced over the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Zambales, Tarlac and Nueva Ecija.

"Residents of these areas, especially those living near river channels, in low-lying and in mountainous areas are advised to take appropriate actions against possible floodings and landslide, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices and continue monitoring for updates," the state weather bureau said. 

Metro Manila, Calabarzon and the rest of Central Luzon will experience scattered light to moderate with occasional heavy rains.

"Sea travel is risky over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the western seaboard of Central Luzon, especially in areas under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal #1," PAGASA said.

  • 48-hour (Monday morning): 510 kilometers north northeast of Basco, Batanes 
  • 72-hour (Tuesday morning): 840 kilometers north of Basco, Batanes (outside PAR) 
  • 96-hour (Wednesday morning): 1,340 kilometers north northwest of Basco, Batanes (outside PAR)
