Boy drowns in Ifugao dam

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — A 12-year-old high school student from Malabon City drowned at Magat Dam in Ifugao on New Year’s Day.
Kurt Bawi Blanker was reportedly with his uncle, Riggie Daleja Bawi, 48 and cousin Rowel Linglingon Bawi, 10; both from Namillangan, Alfonso Lista, Ifugao, when the two teens went to the dam’s banks to swim at around 3:20 p.m.
The victim reportedly swam to the deep portion of the dam and drowned, Benguet police said.
Alfonso Lista town disaster response operatives initiated first aid or CPR to the victim and rushed him to Potia District Hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.
Government physician Joanna Olay reportedly found no signs of unusual injuries on the victim’s body, police said.
